A fire safety professional, Dr. Paula Beever has worked in challenging senior leadership roles with a technical focus for over 20 years. She has applied her professional knowledge in fire safety research, building design and regulation, academia and community risk reduction. Throughout her career she has been responsible for developing and implementing new initiatives ranging from growing professional teams and developing educational courses to contributing to innovative regulatory change. She has over 70 technical publications to her name and is widely sought after as a conference speaker. Paula has been a Director in Ove Arup and Partners and Arup International, and also a Director of the New Zealand Fire Service.

Ron Cookson is a building services engineering professional with over 50 years experience in the design, design management and the successful delivery of challenging projects in 17 countries ranging across four continents. His work has covered a wide range of projects including office and commercial developments, hotels, sports and recreational facilities, industrial and institutional buildings and railway related infrastructure. For most of his career he has worked in closely integrated design teams of architects, engineers, and specialists and is a strong supporter of this holistic approach towards achieving cost- effective, sustainable and energy efficient solutions to building design. Ron was a Director of Arup in Hong Kong.
